5 Ways to Celebrate National Nonprofit Day

As a nonprofit organization, did you know there is a special occasion to highlight you and your team?

National NonProfit Day is meant to honor the service of nonprofit organizations in local communities and the people who make it possible. This special day was recently recognized and declared in 2017 and is now observed annually on August 17th. 

As a nonprofit, you are already aware of the amazing social and environmental benefits you can ignite. Are you also aware of the economic influence? Nonprofits are major consumers of goods and services that directly impact employment opportunities in the US and around the globe.

A 2021 study by Prosper Strategies found that nonprofits account for 5-10% of the United States economy and about 10% of U.S. employment. This same study found that in 2021 there were over 1.5 million 501(c)3 organizations in the United States. 

With so many nonprofits in the US alone, it can be easy for an organization to feel lost in the sea of missions and messages. This feeling can make it difficult to determine the most impactful ways to show support.

Set aside time on August 17th to send a heartfelt “Thank You” to your team or donors. 

A simple acknowledgment can go a long way, especially in an industry where volunteers make up the majority of helping hands. Recognition habitually flies under the radar. Let’s be intentional about showing love to all who make a difference!

Social Media Showcase

Dedicating a post to your organization's team members and/or partners is a great way to show recognition and spread awareness simultaneously.

Your team members will find inspiration from being publicly recognized, and the voice of your organization will be amplified.

If you have the content, try posting several times on August 17th and tagging the posts with #NationalNonProfitDay. Use this as an experiment to see what traction you get from posts like this!
